Nicole Allen Cerrito joined the Mackenzie Hughes firm in 2006 as a member
of the firm's business department with an emphasis in labor and employment
law. She is involved in litigation in federal and state courts, including
employment discrimination. She also appears in Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission and Division of Human Rights actions. Nicole is involved in
seminars concerning all aspects of the employment relationship including
proper hiring and discharge practices, sexual harassment, employment discrimination
and compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act, the Family
Medical Leave Act, the Americans' with Disabilities Act and wage and hour
laws.
Nicole is also a member of the firm's Strategic Grants practice group
a proactive initiative to secure grants for Central New York businesses,
municipalities and not-for-profit entities. She has experience in grant
writing and economic development for individuals and companies.
Nicole received a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics from Ithaca College
in 2000. She continued her education at City University of New York School
of Law where she graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 2003. Nicole is admitted
to practice law in New York, Connecticut, the United States District Court
for the Northern and Southern Districts of New York, the U.S. District
of Connecticut and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Nicole is a member of the New York State and American Bar Associations
(Labor and Employment sections), the Women's Bar Association of the State
of New York, and the Onondaga County Bar Association. She also volunteers
with the Onondaga County Bar Association's Volunteer Lawyers Project.
Prior to joining Mackenzie Hughes, Nicole clerked for the Honorable William
B. Lewis of the Superior Court of Connecticut in Stamford. She also worked
at a law firm in New York City where she represented clients in ERISA
benefits litigation, insurance coverage disputes, and labor and employment
law. Nicole has experience in trials, arbitrations, agency hearings, mediations,
and has authored appellate briefs for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the
Second Circuit.
In her spare time, Nicole enjoys traveling, photography, art, swimming
and spending time with her family.
