Michael J. Livolsi joined Mackenzie Hughes in 2010, his practice focuses
on litigation, municipal law and labor and employment matters.
Michael received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Houghton College in 2002.
He continued his studies at the Albany Law School of Union University
where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 2006. He is admitted to practice
law in New York State and the Federal District Court, both the Northern
District of New York, and Western District of New York. Michael is a member
of the New York State and Onondaga County Bar Associations.
While in law school, Michael was a student assistant in the Government
Law Center where he researched and drafted summaries for use in the Saratoga
Institute on Racing Wagering. He served as a legal intern with the Office
of the Attorney General, NYS Department of Law, Litigation Bureau, the
NYS Department of Transportation, Legal Services Division, and the Civil
Rights and Disabilities Law Clinic at Albany Law School. Michael has also
clerked with the NYS Committee on Professional Standards.
Prior to joining Mackenzie Hughes, Michael gained extensive experience
counseling and defending businesses, municipalities, school districts
and law enforcement agencies in a wide variety of contexts, including
employment law, constitutional claims, discrimination claims and investigations
in both an administrative context and in State and Federal actions.
Michael represents municipalities in a variety of matters including municipal
code enforcement, contract formation and breach, as well as litigation
of collective bargaining agreements. Michael counsels in the area of employee
discipline, including both student discipline and staff discipline under
the Education Law. He has represented clients before the NYS Division
of Human Rights, the NYS Appellate Divisions, Federal District Courts,
and frequently appears in the NYS Supreme Court. Michael is Counsel to
the Village of Deposit, NY. Michael also counsels Charter Schools in all
areas of law, including employment, finance, municipal compliance and
FOIL matters in addition to board governance and litigation matters.
Michael spends his time away from the office traveling, hiking and climbing
in the Adirondack Mountains, the Sierra Nevadas, White Mountains, and
other prominent mountain ranges within the U.S.
