Ramon E. Rivera, a partner at Mackenzie Hughes, has been with the firm since 2001. Ramon handles immigration and naturalization law in the firm's Business Law Department.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1991 from the University of California in Philosophy and then received a Juris Doctorate from Syracuse University College of Law, with a concentration in law and economics, in 1994. While at the University of California, he was a member of the Financial Aid Advisory Committee, the Interfraternity/Panhellenic Judicial Committee and the Vice-Chancellor Selection Committee. Ramon was admitted to the New York Appellate 4th Department and the U.S. District Court, Northern District in 1995. He was admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in 2001.

Ramon is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Onondaga County Bar Association, and the American Immigration Law Association. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Girl Scout Council of CNY, Inc. where he chaired the Audit Committee. Ramon is also an adjunct professor at Syracuse University College of Law where he teaches Immigration Law. Ramon has also lectured at the Onondaga County Bar Association's continuing legal education program on the topic of business immigration. In the past Ramon served as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Onondaga County Spanish Action League, on the Board of Directors of the Onondaga County Bar Association and as a member of the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics Torchbearer Selection Committee.

Prior to joining Mackenzie Hughes, Ramon was the Managing Partner at Micale & Rivera, LLP and a Solo Practitioner at Rivera Law Firm, where he counseled/represented individual and corporate clients in obtaining non-immigrant and immigrant employment based visas. He was also responsible for assisting corporate clients with relocating foreign executives and managers to the U.S., counseling international business entities with customs and trade issues, and counseling and representing individual petitioners in family-based immigration matters before the Buffalo INS District Office, the Regional INS Service Centers and the U.S. State Department, among many other responsibilities.

Ramon was recognized in 2001 by The Central New York Business Journal as one of "40 under 40," an honor that was awarded to the top 40 Central New York business leaders under age 40 for their impact in making the region a better place to work and live.

Over the years, Ramon has been recognized for his accomplishments as an amateur and professional boxer. He was recognized as one of the top three professional boxing prospects in the lightweight division in 1981. From 1979-1981, he was honored as a nationally ranked Golden Gloves and Amateur Athletic Union Champion. In the past, he has also been recognized as the Western Regional Golden Gloves Champion, the Puerto Rican National Jr. Olympic Champion, the U.S. Western Regional Jr. Olympic Champion and finally, the Arizona Jr. Olympic and State Golden Gloves Champion.
