Edward J. Spencer III joined Mackenzie Hughes in 1981 and is now a partner
in the firm. Ted's primary area of expertise is real estate, which includes
residential, commercial, land use and zoning. He also handles regulatory
compliance issues for banks and credit unions and is counsel to various
local municipal boards. Ted also works with the firm's immigration law
practice group where he provides advice and assistance to clients immigrating
to the US in the purchase and sale of residential and commercial real
estate properties.
Ted attended the United States Military Academy and received a Bachelor
of Science degree upon graduation in 1973. After five years of active
military service, he then went on to study at Syracuse University College
of Law, where he graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctorate in 1981. Edward
was admitted to the New York State and U.S. District Court, Northern District
of New York Bar Courts in 1981.
Ted is a member of the Onondaga County, New York State (Business, Municipal
and Real Property Law Sections) and American (General Practice and Business
Law Sections) Bar Associations. He is a member of the Civil Affairs Association
and the Association of Graduates of the United States Military Academy.
In addition, he is a volunteer at the Syracuse City Court, where he is
a Small Claims Arbitrator. He has also been a member of the United States
Army Reserves for 28 years and served in the Judge Advocate General Corps.
He has lectured for the American Institute of Bankers and is an adjunct
professor at Onondaga Community College where he has taught in its Business
Department.
When Ted has a few moments to spare, he enjoys the outdoors, watching
sports and spending time with his children.
