Carter H. Strickland joined Mackenzie Hughes in 1965 and is now a partner in the firm. He provides expertise in commercial litigation, including construction contracts, shareholder disputes, eminent domain and tax certiorari proceedings, partnership disputes and general contract litigation.

Carter received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in 1962. He then went on to study at Duke University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree in 1965. Carter was admitted to the Onondaga County, New York State and District of Columbia Bar Associations.

Carter is a member of the Member Advisory Group to the New York State Federal Judicial Council and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Crouse Health Foundation. He served on the Board of Directors of the Syracuse Chapter of the American Red Cross and Home Aides of Central New York. He is a former Vestryman and Warden to the Community Church in Fayetteville, New York and Assistant Chancellor to the Diocese of Central New York. He has been listed in the Commercial Litigation Section of "Best Lawyers in America" for 2007 and the past twenty years.

Carter served as Counsel for New York State Temporary Commission on Eminent Domain in Syracuse, New York. He served as counsel to the Commission whose task was to review and consolidate laws involving the acquisition of private property by governmental entities.
